As a sworn translator, expats living in the area are a very important target audience. They look me up when they need (sworn) translations of things such as their driving licenses, birth certificates, school records, rental agreements, etc.
However, all too often, they are ‘lured’ into the convenience trap of the expat offices, their rental agencies, or their employer. These organisations take care of everything, they claim, so the expats don’t have to worry about things such as translations and legalisations. But although that may sound very convenient, it is also rather expensive. The organisations often add a percentage to the costs of the translation, thus increasing the bill for the customer (or a bigger deduction on their paycheck).
So my advice to expats living in the Netherlands: find yourself a local freelance translator. They will provide a more personal service, at a lower price. If you are unable to find one in your area, please contact me and I will put you in touch with one of my colleagues.
